The Bacchae by Euripides is a tragedy that tells the story of the god Dionysus returning to Thebes to avenge his mother's dishonor. Disguised as a mortal, he drives the city's women, including King Pentheus's mother, Agave, into a frenzied state, ultimately leading to Pentheus's brutal demise and the destruction of his family.
Our production explores the original story through the lens of late-1960s counterculture: embodying aspects from the Hippies Movement, the Manson Family murders, and JFK assassinations among other significant moments of cultural-societal reckoning.
